2016 Shakedown At The Summit

What a great weekend of drag racing at Summit Motorsports Park “Norwalk” Ohio.

This year Mother Nature tried to interfere, and she did have her way on Saturday, but for the finals on Sunday the weather was beautiful…

The Shakedown was held at E’Town before 2013. It is now held at Summit (Norwalk) Hot Rods from all over the country & Canada came to race at this event, and try to get a piece of the prize money.

Last year’s purse was $119,000. This years Shakedown At The Summit had a purse of $150,500 That’s one heck of a lot of money.

The prize for the ProLine Outlaw Pro Mod was $40,000. The Pro Mod field had 27 hot rods going after that check. I love the Pro Mods to me they remind me of the old Funny Cars. They actually look the the cars. Some have turbos, and you just gotta love the ones with the big blowers on them. Nothing beats that sound.

There is even a “Money Shot” This was a one shot to win a $5,000 check. Not bad for one trip down the track.

The winner of the $40,000 Pro Mod event was Flash Fiscus in his 2012 Ford Mustang.

The X275 event was won by Darren Hilterbran in his 1990 Ford Mustang darren-hilterbran

I’ll repeat what I’ve said before. If you haven’t been to Summit MotorSports Park you owe it to yourself to either come out and race, or just bring the family and watch some great racing in a very family DSC08362_edited-1friendly track.  While your there you can have some Velvet Ice Cream, for only $1.00 a pound.  The food there is very good, and priced so you won’t go broke having a meal.  I could go on & on about this track, but you need to visit it for yourself.

Check out their website for the upcoming events. If you want to camp, they have that also.

The 2016 Halloween Classic will be coming up very soon.  October 16 – 23, 2016.  Lots & lots of racing, and fun.  Bring your kids and enjoy a very family friendly event.  The kids will love it.  Info Here

I would like to thank Mary, and all the folks at Summit Motorsports Park for allowing me the privilege of taking photos at this beautiful track.

Below are just a few photos from the even.  I’ll post a link when I upload them to our photo site.
